Civil and structural work at plant scale

Buildings, foundations and pipe racks for facilities carrying 400 tonne cranes and furnace vessels at temperature.

Industrial civil engineering is a specialism of its own. A melt shop building takes crane loads, thermal movement, vibration and blast-resistant separation, and its foundations sit under equipment that will be replaced twice in the building's life. Getting the structure right is what allows everything else to be modernised later.

Our largest single civil and structural scope was for an integrated melt shop complex in the Middle East. We should be clear that our record here is industrial infrastructure. Roads, bridges and tunnels appear in our sector list as an ambition rather than as delivered projects, and we would tell you that before quoting.

// What this covers

What we do in this sector

01

Industrial buildings

Melt shop and casting bay buildings to 40 m span with double crane runways up to 400 t, plus cladding and envelope design for high-temperature environments.

02

Foundations & structures

Foundations for furnace vessels, transformers and casters, pipe racks, platforms and utility tunnels, with ground improvement and piling specification.

03

Seismic & code compliance

Seismic assessment and design to Eurocode 8 and regional codes, with structural steel detailing ready for contractor tender.

04

Digital twin & monitoring

3D laser scanning for as-built documentation and BIM coordination with multi-discipline clash detection.

// Evidence

Where we have done it

A 150 M EUR civil and structural scope for a 1.2 MTPA integrated steel complex in the Middle East (2024), covering pipe racks, ASP, SVC, scale pit and a shore-area pipe bridge. Rolling mill bay, reheating furnace, sheds and control rooms in the Middle East (2023). Civil and structural engineering for an HBI/CDRI plant including furnace, water treatment and equipment foundations (2023).
